Virginia Governor Glen Youngkin is going after Biden for his poor economic performance. A Republican in a blue-purple state, Youngkin knows that the GOP has to fight Democrats on the economic issues to succeed. America’s News Desk reports:

During an interview over the weekend, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin blasted President Joe Biden, stating that the state of America’s economy was massively underperforming expectations.

Youngkin delivered his comments from Germany during an interview with Dana Bash on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday. He was stressing the significance of his state strengthening its connections with other nations in the wake of the troubles facing the U.S. economhy.

“Global economic strength is national security. And it’s critically important for us to have deep relationships with our trusted allies. I think we have done a great job in the Commonwealth of Virginia in bringing companies to Virginia, but also developing relationships around the world. Last year, I was in Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea, and now I’m going to be in Germany, in Denmark, in Finland.” Youngkin said.

“And it’s an incredibly important opportunity for us to deepen these relationships. And I think it also represents the fact that our economy is not performing as it should be. I mean, the reality is, we have low growth and high inflation. It should be flip-flopped. We should have low inflation and high growth.” he continued.

“And it’s part of our economic mission to build that. I do think President Trump built that when he was president. I think we’re suffering under Joe Biden’s leadership economically. Virginia has done incredibly well over the last couple of years, as we have rebounded aggressively, with more people working than ever. And I’m going to continue to work to bring jobs to Virginia, but also to make sure we have great relationships around the world.” Youngkin concluded.

Virginia is deeply tied to the Federal Government’s policies, as its Northern region’s economy is largely powered by the Federal budget. It is often selected as a place for jobs and headquarters due to its more favorable tax laws compared to DC and Maryland. While Virginia will likely vote for Biden, a swing towards Trump could mean greater gains in other states.
