Lauren Boebert successfully won her primary for the 4th Congressional District in Colorado. Boebert faced a major problem following the 2020 redistricting: run in the new Republican district, or face slim chances in her current newly-Democrat district. America’s News Desk says:
Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) won the Republican primary in Colorado’s eastern 4th Congressional District.
Boebert beat a field of competitors to win the Republican primary to succeed former Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.), confounding early predictions that her time in Congress was coming to an end.
The Colorado Republican, who presently represents the western 3rd Congressional District, sought for another term after narrowly defeating Democrat Adam Frisch by a few hundred votes in 2022.
She decided late last year to run in the eastern — and safely red — 4th Congressional District rather than another expensive and tough House contest.
But when Boebert chose to run in the new district, her chances of obtaining the Republican nomination were far from guaranteed.
Boebert faced criticism from primary opponents who labeled her a carpetbagger.
She was also plagued by negative headlines after being caught vaping and causing a disruption at a performance of the musical “Beetlejuice” in Denver last year, leading her to publicly confront and apologize for the event during talks with voters.
Perhaps Boebert’s greatest fear was when Buck revealed that he would be retiring early, necessitating a special election for the seat.
To make matters worse, the special election to complete his tenure was held on the same day as the Republican primary for the entire two-year term.
Boebert chose not to run in the special election because doing so would have caused her to resign from her existing 3rd District seat, resulting in a special election to serve the remainder of her term.
Boebert is now anticipated to face presumptive Democratic nominee Ike McCorkle. Trump won the district by 19 points in 2020, making Boebert the clear favorite to take the seat in November.
Boebert’s time in Congress has had ups and downs with the media, including scrutiny in her family dynamics. Similar to the way Sarah Palin was treated, Boebert has been fighting to forge her own path and will likely continue to do so in Congress.
