Donald Trump is suing the Justice Department for $100 million in response for their bungled search at Mar-A-Lago in 2022. Trump’s charges were dismissed by a judge. America’s News Desk reports:
The Justice Department is now reportedly being sued by former President Trump for $100 million in damages in response to the recent search of his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida.
This incident is the latest in a series of obstacles to the retrieval of classified records from his residence.
The administrative claim, which was submitted last week and was initially reported on Monday, was submitted one day prior to the expiration of the two-year window for pursuing damages.
Accusing the Justice Department of political bias in its prosecution, the filing mirrors a plethora of other court filings and campaign speeches that Trump has delivered, condemning the search of his home.
After being requested to return the records in his residence on numerous occasions, including defying a subpoena for the documents, Trump’s residence was searched.
Ultimately, the search yielded over 300 documents with classified markings, as well as other records from Trump’s tenure as president.
The search warrant on Trump’s residence, which was authorized by a federal magistrate in Florida in 2022, has been the subject of numerous unsuccessful challenges.
The courts upheld the warrant for review, and the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals reversed a decision made by Judge Aileen Cannon to appoint a special master to review the presidential records collected from Trump’s residence, ordering their return to the Justice Department.
The claim is subject to a 180-day evaluation by the Justice Department, following which the matter may be resolved in federal court.
As long as the federal government thinks it can harass conservatives without pushback, it will do so. Hopefully, this lawsuit will put an end to that.
