A carjacker in the nation’s capital picked the wrong target for his crime. A US Marshall, who was guarding Justice Sotomayor from his car, was targeted by a criminal unaware of his occupation. In a tense exchange, the Deputy shot him. America’s News Desk has the story:

While he was watching Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s residence in Washington, DC, a would-be carjacker reportedly pulled a gun on him and a deputy US Marshal shot him in response, according to police.

The US Marshals Service stated that on July 5, around 1:15 a.m., Kentrell Flowers, 18, allegedly approached one of the two deputies’ cars that were parked outside Sotomayor’s home in northwest Washington, DC, and pointed a weapon at the bodyguard. The guy was shot multiple times by a marshal who pulled out a gun in self defense.

According to authorities, the suspect was taken into custody and given non-life-threatening medical attention at a nearby hospital.

A semi-automatic handgun was found at the site and is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police.

Flowers faces charges of possessing a large capacity magazine, carrying a firearm without a license, and armed carjacking.

This carjacking in the nation’s capital is only the most recent in a string of high-profile incidents involving federal officers and VIPs.

The collapse of Washington DC into rampant criminality is dangerous, showing just how far leftist policies have enabled criminals. It is also interesting to note that leftist justices, who otherwise wish to deny ordinary Americans’ right to defend themselves, benefit from armed security.
